Germany, a land of innovation, invention and ideas is one of the most preferred destination for foreign students. International standards in education, science and research play a central role in making the country one of the knowledge hubs of Europe. The country has one of the world’s best and most extensive school and university systems. Internationally recognized qualifications and comparatively lower costs of education are the two key factors that allure students from all corners of the world.

A storied and complicated country with a complicated and storied history, Germany has all the core elements a college student needs to have a fun, interesting and invigorating experience studying abroad. Internationally, Germany is one of the most popular countries (along with the USA and the UK) for students from all over the world to take admissions. The Heidelberg University, University of Berlin, University of Bremen, University of Leipzig, Frankfurt University, etc. are some of the best centers of education in the world.

There are currently 387 universities in Germany with a combined student population of approximately 2.4 million. Of these, 110 are universities or similar institutions, 221 are universities of applied sciences (in German ‘Fachhochschulen’) and 56 are colleges of art or music.

Globally around 1.8 million students pursue higher studies abroad. Of these, approximately one tenth come to Germany. German Universities are autonomous and provide special emphasis on research and teaching. Some of the groundbreaking discoveries that the world has seen have been the result of German Universities. This is one of the strongest reasons why students increasingly prefer Germany for research studies.

Higher Education Institutions are either state or state-recognized institutions. In their operations, including the organization of studies and the designation and award of degrees, they are both subject to higher education legislation. Germany has recently experienced an increasing financial commitment to the field of higher education at a federal level both in terms of scope and importance.
However, this development is restricted by narrow constitutional limitations. The German government can only legislate on issues related to access to higher education and academic qualifications.

In Germany one study year contains two terms called semester. There is a summer and a winter term. Each term lasts half a year and contains two parts, the lecture period and the lecture-free period. In the lecture period every lecture and class takes place at university. In the lecture-free period the end of term exams take place and it is also possible to make an internship, to work or to enjoy your holidays.

Intakes: The main intake offered by all Universities is September, Deadlines: from 15th Feb till 31st May. Few universities offer in March, Deadlines: from 15th Nov till Jan Last.

At university there are different kinds of lectures. The normal lectures are main part of the studies in most of the programs. A professor speaks in front of the students about important content. On the contrary, in seminars there is an exchange between the professor and his or her students and in exercises the students can apply their theoretical knowledge in practical projects.
